Activities related to energy efficiency and sustainability have received increased attention worldwide in recent years while addressing the problems of energy security and resources depletion. Energy efficiency measures have been proven by many analyses to be the most cost-effective and fast-track way to reduce energy use, decrease utility bills and secure consumer benefits. To progress towards an energy-efficient and sustainable future, the pace of investment in, and implementation of, energy use reduction actions must be accelerated.
Most buildings and particularly school premises in Moldova were built during the times of abundant and cheap energy recourses. Now, with relentlessly rising energy costs, many of these buildings have become expensive to be maintained in working conditions. Hence, it has become a necessity to upgrade the existing buildings and to use them in an energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable way.
From this perspective, LED decided to fund and implement a project to address the energy challenges faced by some of its partner schools. Efficient heating system, appropriate windows, thermal insulation and ventilation systems installed in selected LED partner schools’ dormitories and workshops will cut energy consumption and thus will mitigate the energy cost, while providing thermal comfort and air quality in indoors spaces of the schools.
