Education Plus: Inclusion of Roma kids in three schools of Moldova

The project facilitates formal and non-formal educational processes in three communities with low social inclusion rates. The project replicates the intervention model used in the pilot project implemented in the school of Zirnesti community in 2013. The project facilitates formal and non-formal educational processes in three communities with low social inclusion rates. The good developments in Zirnesti should be consolidated and expanded to two more communities, namely Hincesti and Gribova.

In these communities, the educational gap between Roman and non-Roma kinds as well as the rate of absenteeism and drop-out shall be diminished and the capacities of the teachers and school management to better cope with inclusion processes shall be increased. Main activities for achieving these objectives are:

  • Teacher training: 40-45 teachers of the 3 beneficiary schools will be trained on social inclusion and quality education in an interethnic environment.
  • Educational vouchers: up to 120 kids will benefit from both food vouchers and school supplies vouchers. 60 kids will benefit from homework facilitation vouchers.
  • Teaching materials: Education materials on inclusion in Moldova are either rare or poor in respect to the complex process of integrating Roma kids into the educational system of Moldova. A number of valuable didactic materials will be created.
  • Democracy clubs: Roma children together with Non-Roma peers will spend their spare-time with a number of different activities. The clubs will constitute focal points of motivation/encouragement for pupils to participate in public life while building trust in public institutions.
