The Liechtenstein Development Service (LED)
- provides official development aid on behalf of Liechtenstein's government.
- works especially in rural regions in the fields of education, health and rural development.
- gives priority to gender issues, social justice and the environment in all respects.
- is a private-law foundation of the people and government of Liechtenstein.
- was founded in 1965.
The Board consists of nine persons, who are appointed every four years by the government. Five persons are selected by the government itself, four by the association Welt und Heimat (2), the Red Cross Liechtenstein and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Liechtenstein. President is Mr. Josef Biedermann.
The Head office consists of five persons:
- Dr. Rudolf Batliner, general secretary
- Tamara Büchel, administration and in charge of doubling activities
- Ute Mayer, desk officer Africa and public relations
- Pius Frick, desk officer Eastern Europe / Asia and small projects
- Stefan Biedermann, desk officer Latin America
LED has three field offices in Harare (Zimbabwe), in Cochabamba (Bolivia) and in Chisinau (Moldova).
Partners
In most countries Non-Governmental Organizations are partners of LED. In Zimbabwe, Zambia and Latin America we work directly with local NGOs. In all the other countries, LED funded projects are implemented by experienced NGO mainly from Switzerland and Austria.
